Three D Weapon - XOC Patrol Gun
This is my first time joining a challenge and I'm very excited to come up with something. Also to see all other wonderfull work!
For a theme I decided to create police patrole gun that police would would carry in near future. Whole theme is set in not so distant future, so I could implement some sci-fi elements and shapes. Patrol gun must be usable with one hand, easy to use and not cumbersome. One of main aspects is some kind of side barrel that causes EMP. Main barrel is used for regular bullets or some derivatives. Design is mostly combined of hard surface elements and details with mostly symmetrical shapes.
I have some ideas about the environment but nothing concrete for now. Gun will be showcased in some civil envirnoment like a coffee shop or maybe in police station.
Few days ago, I made simple blockout of how I imagine that gun would look like. I tried to loosely base dimensions on the real gun. Also, I am confident that overall shapes will change as time passes. I kinda want to just freeflow it.
P.S I will post more regulary from now on. Almost forgot about doing WIP topic. 🙂
Continuing work on main shapes with some additional details here and there. Still trying to respect overall idea and theme.
Thinking about using bevel shader on some shapes to get nice transition from straight to circular shapes.
Hopefully tomorrow or over the weekend I'll finish basic modeling and start to redefine and clean up some shapes.
Ofcourse, nobody can allocate time where and when they want to. 🙂
So, I "finished" handle for the gun and moved some things here and there. Next step will be model refinement and blocking out environment for composition and rendering.
I still don't have clear idea what will it be, but hopefully will work through some scenes on the fly and see where will it go.
Just got back to it. Had to finish some other work and now I'm doing quick experiments with ambient and lightning.
First image is something like offical police charging station for police guns while they aren't at work. I feel like that idea with reptition and DOF could turn out nicely. Others showcase gun in home environment when it's taken home. Tried out two different settings, one more warm like and other colder/darker type. Don't really know what to make of it. 🙂 Anyhow, will give few more ideas a shoot probably and after a good sleep go over them again to see what sticks.
Will try to give more hours to this project. Looking around this forum reallly inspires people. There are some really, really nice ideas and artwork! 🙂
Still working through some ideas for environment and composition. Must say, didn't expected to make so much fuss about it. 🙂
Anyhow, it's fun to experiment on the fly!
I think next post will be about more defined environment with few key lights. I'm getting nervous about deadline so will bravely push on. 🙂
Three days to go, no hurry. 🙂 Happy to be back working on this project. Had some stuff to wrap up, so finally I can make some updates for you!
Did rework some parts of the gun to make it more readable and added some details like bolts and usual stuff. Also, I wanted to try out procedural texturing in Blender so now it's perfect time (or lack of it hehe) to do it. Made some basic materials using textures found on CC0 textures. If there is time left, I would probably make some materials in Painter or Designer.
All in all, I'm quite happy how it turned out. Probably spent to much time on it, but you learn as you go, right. 🙂
I made some test render just for fun and starded refining environment.
In the end I decided to make some kind of a testing lab. I guess it's quality assurance stage of production proces for this guns. Here, personel is testing different firing systems that gun has in special chambers. Also, there are some parts that are manually inspected.
Next step is to put on some materials and ad lights. I assume camera angle won't change much but time will tell.
