This is the first time I'm entering a challenge. I want to create a weapon with an interesting story behind it. The idea is in a dangerous post apocalyptic world, a master gunsmith has been commissioned to put together a weapon for someone. The weapon has to be powerful and advanced, but resemble an old western firearm to avoid drawing unnecessary attention.
My biggest concern at the moment is time as I can only work on this on the weekends. I have spent some time making thumbnails to explore the look of the weapon. Once I am set on the overall look I will finalise the design in 3D. I am not sure if I should use 3ds max as I am comfortable with it, or try MODO since it seems more efficient.

I have mostly decided on the look of the weapon. Ended up with a Revolver Rifle sort of look since there aren't alot of revolver rifle designs and I love the look of it. I am going to start modelling to establish the final design.

I have also moved away from post apocalyptic, I want to do a scifi gun instead.

Little progress update, I've given up on learning MODO for now and went back to 3DS Max, I find it is too risky to try learning new software when there isn't alot of time. So far I've done a blockout in 3ds max and and quite happy with how it looks. I have started modelling the high poly bit by bit.

I made alot of changes to the design. It's not a railgun anymore. Just a sci fi revolver rifle. i think this will be the final design. I am going to start working on the final high poly now and add detail.

Another WIP shot, I added a sight and picatinny rail and fleshed out the barrel abit as it was still really blockout-ish. Still have alot of pinching and intersecting geometry to fix if you look closely.
