Hi all and greedings from a misty and rainy Finland! Found out that there is a car competition running here again so I decided to start modeling a car for it. I did that Skyline -72 to one of the comp here few years ago. Right now I have a backstory in my head for this one:

"World first fission power plant was opened in 1994 in England. Soon almost every country has their own power plants. To transfer energy efficient way all of them were connected to a power network that distributed electric energy to every place in the world. In 1998 one of the plant malfunctioned and overheated. Network collapsed because if that and cut power from the rest reactors. One after another they exploded and the whole planed turned to dust. 87% of people died and the world was changed to a wasteland. It´s year 2027 and some people are still trying to find resources in the broken world. Since the whole world are filled with sand and broken pieces people started to build cars that were able to move there. Cars were designed to run long distances and were build from cars that survived from the blast."

So the car is going to be Ford Escort MKI with a lot of DYI stuff that makes it more like a offroaded. I also want to make it look very dusty, damaged and old. Environment is important for this one so I guess it would be 50/50 car and envy. It would be interesting to build this in Unreal Engine 4 so it would be real-time. I don´t know if this is allowed in this comp. Anyway here is what I got so far and I really hope to finish this in time 🙂

Hi, glad to see you on the competition again. Real-time rendering is allowed, because we can't forbid the Future 😀 Good luck!

Okay, that´s awesome that real-time is allowed 🙂

I´ve been modeling more of the car during this week. Now the base is starting to be at good shape and next stage will be adding more details to it like panels, maybe some chassis on the roof to hold extra tire and a huge fuel tank to the back.

Some progress on the detailing. I´m trying to get the hi-poly model done as soon as possible.

I think I´m done with the overall idea. I also started to make low-poly versions of some parts.

Nice car and details! It looks like there will be a lot of texturing job 🙂

Thanks! Yeah there will be a lot to texture. I hope to finish it in time. Going to use Substance Designer to speed things up a bit.

It was actually a pretty huge job to make the low (this case medium poly) version out of it and then make UV´s. I managed to made it and tris count is 70k that is pretty good. Next part is adding details to hi-poly models, bake down some maps, texture the car and put it into UE4. I´m still in schedule 🙂 Marmoset Toolbag 2 is perfect for testing how different maps looks.

Managed to get first texture pass done with the car. Made some messy graphs in Substance Designer. Going to tweak things later on but now I want to start working with the environment. I also export the car model to UE4 and start testing different lighting setups. I also started to block out stones and other environment pieces.
