Topic starter

This is my entry to the annual HUM3D vehicle rendering challenge, first time ever participating in a contest with this theme, it has been a long, fun and interesting road, a fabulous practice of designing, modeling and hard surface texturing. I wanted to experiment with some crazy ideas for a new kind of monster car race, featuring urban and abandoned terrains.

Starting with the modeling of the Charger's body (I love muscle cars)

Wireframe preview, now to Substance!

After exporting the bodywork's FBX file, I let substance to unwrap the UV's automatically, so I got UDIM tiles ready to work... but I had to edit them in Blender to have a better distribution of the uv islands, then re-sent to substance to apply paint, labels, graphics and imperfections to it.

Topology check... Modeling, check! Texturing, check!!

Now for the environment I managed to find some incredible assets in Sketchfab and arranged them in a way that I could catch this jumpy-industrial feeling that I needed for the final shot, special thanks to those amazing artists that uploaded these scans and models:

Using every part of the shot as an instance, I could manage this big scene with not much problems...
